How to Block a Number

Most times, some people forget that freedom of communication is not equal to freedom of disturbance.

As a result of this, we tend to calls all round the clock. And almost 70% of them are spam.

These callers can be categorized into 4 different groups namely scammers, telemarketers, strangers or even someone you know that calls you almost every hour.

So, how are you going to stop all these people from disturbing you?

If you want to know how to block calls from unwanted people, just follow the step by step process that I listed below and you and your phone will have a well deserved rest.

The first two methods which were listed here will work for any phone (whether it's Apple / iOS phone or an android phone) while the last method depends on the brand of your phone (it must be an android phone. If you want to know how to block calls on iOS phone, use the search bar on our site to find the tutorial).

Let's begin.

how to block a number

  • 1. Contact the Customer Care of Your Mobile Phone Operator.

Mobile phone operators normally don't like it when telemarkers start bombarding your phone with calls offering you products that you simply don't need.

All you have to do is to find out the customer care line of your service carrier and give them a call. If you don't know their number, look for your SIM pack. It is normally written on the body of the packet.

Before you call them, make sure that you have already written down the number that was disturbing you so that you can rattle it off when asked to.
After you have given them the number, those spammy and useless calls will cease to come.

However, this period of peace might last only for a short time. This is because they could find out that they have been blocked and change the number that they use to contact you.
If that sort of thing, call the customer care line again and report the new number.

You and I know that this could be pretty much tasking - calling the customer care each time that a new number surfaced. It's considerably better to use a method that involves only one or two clicks of the button. That's exactly what the second method is, check it out.

  • Use a Call Blocking App.

A call blocking app is arguably the easiest and fastest way to close uo the wall of communication between you and that sneaky scammer.

Fortunately, there are a lot of apps on the app store right now that has a lot of fantastic features to enable you control who you want to reach you through your phone. Most of them are free to download and use (with ads) while the some are paid.

An example of these kinds of apps is True Caller. It has a lot of great features that you can use in fighting off scammers and spammers. One of these features is the ability to block all calls from a particular country code.

This becomes very essential if you notice that a lot of these calls are coming from a particular country like India. Just pop the country code of India into the box and every single call from India will be blocked.

Sounds good? That's just the tip of the iceberg.

It also has the ability to label or name callers even if you don't have the contact of the person right in your phone. That feature is made possible because of the fact that it makes use of the data submitted by its users worldwide.

So, don't raise an eyebrow when you notice that an Incoming call is labelled "scammer". At that point, all you need to do is to simply ignore it.

  • Use the Inbuilt Phone Settings to Block Calls.

I made this method to be the last on the list because of the fact that many phone manufacturers are omitting this feature. The reason for that is not apparent. Last time I checked, these four mobile phone brands still have a call blocking feature; Samsung, Gionee, HTC, and LG.

Accessing this call blocking feature is almost the same for all the phone brands with a few differences here and there.

To get started with that,  open the phone app and select the call logs tab. At the top right hand corner of the call logs, you may find three dots or three horizontal lines. Click on it and choose call settings. From the list of options displayed, choose general call settings. It is under the general call settings that you will find the option to block calls. Add the number that you want to block and click Done.

OK. Dear friend.

That's all you need to know on how to block a number. If you have more tips on that, let me know that in the comments below.
As always, have a great day and I shall see you tomorrow.
