How to Zip a File | The Easiest and Fastest Method Used by Computer Geeks


In your computer, you might have a lot of files which need serious security and protection.

Sometimes, those files are meant to be used for one project.

 Due to the important nature of these files you need to make a zip file to have them all in one file to limit confusion.
  
On the other hand, every computer has a hard drive disk which provides spaces for storage of items.
It is certain that every storage device has a limited capability to store files. This also applies to your computer but when you zip the files and the folders into one “Zip file” it will create more space to store more items. On occasion like this you need to zip the files.

STEP 1

BOOT YOUR COMPUTER

Every computer takes about 3-4 minutes to boot so that files, folders and Apps in the computer can display accordingly on the hard disk and screen of the computer.

In the computer you can store a file in below;
  1. Desktop
  2. Download
  3. Documents

However, you need to locate where the file is stored in your computer first.





STEP 2

SELECT THE FILE TO ZIP

Try to locate the files or folder you want to zip after the computer must have finalized booting. When you see it, then you select;
  1. Press Down the (Ctrl) key on your keyboard
  2.  Right Click on the file or folder you want to zip

Submenu will pop up.






STEP 3

ON THE SUBMENU CHOOSE OPTION (SEND TO)

The submenu that showed up will display  areas like this to go;
  1. Bluetooth device
  2. Compressed (zipped) folder
  3. Desktop (create shortcut)
  4. Fax recipient
  5. Mail recipient
  6. DVD RW drive (E :)

Drag your mouse so that your cursor should point on Compressed (zipped) folder.







STEP4

GENTLY CLICK ON THE DIRECTION YOU POINT CURSOR

Quietly click on the compressed (zipped) folder where you pointed cursor, and automatically new zipped folder will appear. The zipped folder will be created the same place you selected the file. Also it bears exactly the name of the file you selected.

STEP 5

RENAME THE ZIPPED FOLDER

To quickly rename the zipped folder so as to make it specific for usage;
1.      Right click on the zipped folder
2.      Select rename.

The name on the zipped folder will be highlighted. Then, right a name that you will use to remember the folder after you have added files to make it one.






  STEP 6

ADD FILES INTO THE ZIPPED FOLDER.

You can add several files together to one compressed file. Just as you create zipped folder it allows you to save hard drive space by accumulating excessive files in one folder. Zipping file allows you to send files more quickly over the Internet, and also attach certain types of files such as (.exe).

Moreover, in Windows such as Windows XP, Vista, and 7 you can either select each file and send them to a compressed folder or create a compressed folder and drag files to it. With Mac OS X, you use the "Compress" option with multiple files selected.


Add files to your compressed zip file by;
  • Select the file to move
  • Hold down the mouse
  • Drag to zipped file, then drop


This method is still acceptable;
  • Right click on the file to move
  • Select copy or cut
  • Open the compressed file
  • Right click on the space
  • Select paste and click to paste


Remember when you selected a cut on a file or folder it means you doesn’t want to see the item again in that particular location apart from where you pasted it.
