How to be happy (with pictures)

Achievement of happiness can be a hard task but it becomes more easier by the constant search for it even if it becomes more elusive as you seek for it. Being happy is normally associated with feelings of satisfaction, contentment, fun, joy and having the constant feeling that your life is meaningful. 
Nobody can be claim to be joyful all the time but some individuals are more fulfilled than others. Psychological studies have proved that happiness affected in a very small way by possessions and that it is important for health. Continue reading so as to discover ways that you can make yourself to be more happier.

SECTION ONE
CREATING A HAPPY NATURE

Step 1
Fill Your Soul With Happy Moments:
Most times, what we unconsciously choose to remember is only negative experiences but erase positive ones. Purify your mind by filling your mind with thoughts of happy moments. Engage in activities that are going to lighten your mind like
- going to sit quietly on the rock overlooking a waterfall,
-  humming your favorite song as you carry out your daily activities,
-  Meditation using techniques like tai chi, yoga e.t.c
-  Actively recognise the beauty of small happy times and make it into a big memorable experience. You can do this by taking a picture of yourself basking in a gorgeous sunny day or by writing a journal or making a Facebook entry or a short video that describes your happy moments.
- Smile often and express your gratitude to people in a big way even if the favour that they did to you is small. Such acts warms the heart of the receiver and makes the person which will have a reflective effect on our own happiness.

Step 2
Cultivate The Act of Positive Thinking:
Your outlook towards life should be positive and optimistic. Believing that the end result of your intentions are going to be successful, you will achieve that simply because your brain has been conditioned to do just that.
- There is power in positive thinking because it is a necessary part of your general life satisfaction.
- Optimism is more than just having positive expectations, it also includes how you interpret virtually everything that happens to you.
It involves avoiding sentences like "I have bad luck", "it is all my fault", "I cannot achieve this no matter how hard that I tried".

Step 3
Express Your Gratitude Profoundly:
Many research results have shown that gratitude is helpful to you. It has been proved that anxious and depressive feelings can be greatly reduced if you imbibe the act of gratitude. Your social relationship and the level of compassion that people have for you will increase greatly as well. It also has been confirmed that it heightens your happiness.
- Try to contact anyone that has shown you favour in any way by writing him a 'thank you so much' letter. You can also do this by using email or Facebook. If you want to make the expression of gratitude more dramatic, you can create a short video or buy a 'thank you' explosives.

Step 4
Make Decisions That Matches Your Values:
"commitment to excellence", "dedication to helping the poor", or "commitment to family affairs" can be your values. Your values are the things you consider important when you look at your life. Research has shown that making decisions or taking actions that are in accordance with what you care for most in life is going to make you happy even without you knowing it. And that is why a worker who is part of an organization that does not pursue the goals that matches his/her values will feel unhappy and uncomfortable working in that organization.

Step 5
Imagine Your "Best Future You":
The visualization of how one will look in the future after one must have achieved his/her goal is an exercise that has proved to have a tremendous impact on ones level of happiness.  Write all of the scenarios of the best you in the future and work towards achieving that.

Step 6
Manage Stress and Avoid Guilt:
Do not beat yourself up because of one guilt or another or because of one negative self criticism that crawled into your mind. Forgive yourself and show yourself the kindness that you show to your friend who you sincerely want to forgive. Stress can also lower your happiness. Manage stress by doing what you consider necessary promptly, eating good foods, taking deep breaths, exercising and having enough sleep. You can also encourage yourself by talking to yourself in this manner, "The large number of work that I did or which I am about to do is the cause of my stress but I am strong and capable to do more than this work facing me". Effective management of guilt and stress will increase your happiness very well.

Step 7
Get Over Your Traumatic Experiences:
If you feel sad or upset from time to time, then the cause might be the traumatic events that has happened to you in the past. Traumatic childhood experiences like sexual abuse, maltreatment and other painful events like breakups or the death of a loved one could make you to become depressed. If you have money, you can consider meeting a licensed professional or therapist to help you to get over your trauma. Religious men and women can also be of help here.

Step 8
Like What Makes You "You"
Recent psychological studies have revealed that most people are unhappy because they are not comfortable with how they look or behave.
Bear in mind that your personality is unique and there is no easy way to fully become happy than by embracing everything that makes you "you".
Liking yourself will make others to like you as well and will make you to be happier. Do everything that makes you happy in so far as it does not harm anybody even if others think that it is silly. Put sticky notes of your strengths at places like the door of a refrigerator, bathroom doors, mirrors etc

Step 9
Do What Increases Your Happiness:
Scientists have long struggled to create a formula for long term happiness and their final result is that happiness is composed of 50% genetic factors (biology, brain chemistry, etc.), 10% circumstantial factors (income, job, living situation), and 40% intentional activity (what you choose to do and think regularly. It then goes without a saying that choosing activities that interest us is going to increase our happiness.

Step 10
Have a Smile on Your Face Always:
Science has shown that smiling makes you to be happier whether you are in the happy mood or not. This works well if you engage all the muscles in your face especially the ones around the eyes. Try smiling at any time that you can afford to. Smiling causes happiness in the same   way that happiness causes smiling.
An experimental statement proved that those who smiled during painful exercises experienced less pain than those who made their face expressionless.

Step 11
Condition Your Body For Happiness:
Constant exercises, a healthy diet and constant sleep are important factors that
aid in the positive growth of your happiness. People who engage in regular exercises are easily excited and enthusiastic because exercises stimulate the brain to release the mood elevation chemicals called endorphins. Eat healthy foods and get regular sleep because they reduce the risks of your getting dementia and depression.

Step 12
Do Little Acts of Kindness:
Help the poor whenever you can because psychological studies have revealed that the mood of people is elevated whenever they give assistance to people in need or less privileged than them.
Being compassionate will enable you to contribute to the transformation of the world to a better place while remaining happy.

Step 13
Make Friends:
In 2010, Harvard Researchers published the American Sociological Review in which they stated that those who had more close friends reported greater life satisfaction than those who did not have friends. This shows the necessity of friendship to happiness. Friendship increases happiness because it gives you an outlet to talk about what both of you are interested in.
Aim more at the increase of your interactions with people near you and try to share your ideas and interests with them and you will discover that you will feel more happy due to sensations of reward and wellbeing.
Engagement in social interactions will stimulate the brain to release dopamine and serotonin which our sensations of happiness and relaxation.

Step 14
Derive Happiness From Your Work:
Even if you are trying to get a new work, it is advisable to find a way that you can derive joy from your work. However, you must note that getting a new job must not dramatically increase your happiness. Your happiness in your place of work depends solely on how matching are your personal interests and goals to that of the company that you work for.
Optimism and  quality relationship with other workers also positively impacts on your work satisfaction.

Step 15
Practice the Virtue of Forgiveness:
Forgiveness has been viewed by some religious and philosophical sects as a heart healing act. Science experimental results have also supported this as it shows that it helps to reduce cardiovascular diseases. Forgiveness helps to reduce the perception of stress and hence helps to improve happiness.
Though, forgiveness is not something that you will wake up and decide to do, it is the better option when you consider the burden that you will have to bear in your heart throughout your life.
