How to Prevent Falls In The Home

Falls are worse for young children and older adults.

Very few deaths from falls occur in adults who are below the age of 60.

For children, the most severe falls are associated with three products: baby, walkers, windows, and play equipments including trampolines.

Below are a few things that you can do to prevent people in your home from falling :

FIRST technique
PUT WINDOW GUARDS ON ALL WINDOWS:

It is necessary to put window guards on all the windows so as to reduce the frequency of falls.

SECOND technique
PUT SOFT PROTECTIVE SURFACES UNDER PLAY EQUIPMENTS :
Making that available to the play equipments will make the falls to be less injurious or harmful.

THIRD technique
PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE STAIRCASES:
Ensure that the staircases are free of slippery liquids.

Also, it will be much more better to provide the staircases with hand rails.

If they are already there, make sure that it is not wobbly.

Always light up the stairs at night.

FOURTH technique
MAKE THE FLOOR SAFE:

Avoid the spilling of slippery liquids on the floor or objects blocking path ways.

Remove or repair any tattered
or loose carpeting from the floor.

Also clear the floor of toys and other items.

FIFTH technique
USE SAFETY GATES AT THE STAIRCASES:
If children are present in the house, then it is advisable to use safety gates both at the top and bottom of the staircases.

SIXTH technique
MAKE YOUR BASEMENT VISIBLE :
If you have a dark basement, install a light on the staircase and paint your bottom step a bright color to make it more visible.

SEVENTH technique
LOOK OUT FOR PETS:
Pets cause most of the recorded falls. Hence, it is only more appropriate to keep them under control.

EIGHTH technique
MAKE YOUR SHOWER SAFE
Always ensure that the soap water spilled on the shower floor is properly dried.

Use non-slip rubber mats and install extra rails and grab bars if necessary.

Also, make sure that the existing rails and other supports are in good condition to support your weight.

NINTH technique
USE YOUR STURDY STEP STOOLS:
Make sure that you always use and have your sturdy step stools when getting things in the kitchen or out of the closets.

TENTH technique
ENFORCE ' NO CLIMBING RULE ' FOR CHILDREN :
If you have small children, install locks on all cabinets and drawers so that they won't climb on them.

Make sure that you always watch for any attempt to climb objects by the children and punish them as due.
